We all log into Instagram everyday, but sometimes we fail to notice the little changes made to the app. Whether these are features you already know and love, or are new to you, here are 7 Instagram Features we wanted to highlight

1. Archive Photos

Instagram’s archive feature allows users to hide a post from their profile without having to actually delete it. Say you want to get rid of an old photo that is no longer on brand, you can archive it instead of deleting it. This way, the photo is hidden from your page but not gone forever. When you archive a photo, it is stored in the archive section of your profile.

To archive a photo:

  1. Tap the picture you want to remove.
  2. Tap the three dots above the photo.
  3. Tap “archive”.

To see your photos again once they are archived:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “Archive”.

2. Saved Photos

If you tend to screenshot Instagram posts you want to save for a later time, this Instagram feature is for you. Your “saved” section on Instagram allows you to file all the photos you like into folders. Make as many folders as you like and organize the posts that bring you inspiration. The best part about this feature is no one can see that you saved their post, only you are able to see this section.

To save a photo:

  1. Tap the photo you want to save.
  2. Tap the flag icon to the bottom right of the photo.

To access your saved photos:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “Saved”.

3. Close Friends List

Stories have become a hugely popular feature on Instagram. But if you would like to keep the viewers of your Instagram stories confined to a small group of users, try the close friends list. This feature allows you to customize a list of users within your followers that can only see your stories.

To set up your close friends list:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “Close Friends”.
  3. From the list of suggested users to add, choose the people you want to add to your list.

4. Mute & Hide Stories

Sometimes when unfollowing another user isn’t the best route to go, mute their stories! The same thing goes for hiding your own stories from certain users. By muting or hiding stories, you avoid burning a bridge with a follower while still getting the benefits of unfollowing their account.

To mute someone’s Instagram story:

  1. Go to your homepage.
  2. Hold down the story of the user you want to mute.
  3. Tap “Mute”.

To hide your story from someone:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “settings”.
  3. Tap “privacy”.
  4. Tap “story”.
  5. Tap “hide story from” and choose the user.

5. Post Notifications

Are you waiting for an important post from an account you follow? Maybe they are announcing a new product or a contest winner. You want to know when this post is live, but you can’t sit around refreshing their Instagram page all day. This is where post notifications come in handy! Turning on post notifications for your favorite accounts assure that your notified every time they post. This feature can also come in handy so you never miss a post.

To turn on post notifications:

  1. Go to their profile.
  2. Tap “following” and then tap “notifications.”
  3. Tap “posts” or “stories”.

6. Control Comments

If the comment section of your account is getting out of hand, whether it is spam or a specific user, Instagram gives you control. You can control who can comment on yours posts, block comments from specific users and chose certain words you would like to filter out.

To edit the comment controls of your Instagram:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “settings”.
  3. Tap “privacy”.
  4. Tap “comments”.

7. Shopping Bag

Have you ever noticed a little shopping bag icon on a photo when browsing through Instagram? This icon indicates that that post has items that are linked for sale. These shoppable posts on Instagram allow you to buy the products pictured without even leaving the Instagram app. An easy way to access all shoppable posts on Instagram is to use the shopping bag feature.

To access your shopping bag:

  1. Go to your profile and tap the three lines in the upper right corner.
  2. Tap “shopping bag” and tap “start shopping”.

To purchase an item:

  1. Tap the photo and tap “view products” in the bottom left corner.
  2. Tap the product you like.
  3. Tap “proceed to checkout”.
