Instagram story highlights are a great tool that your business might be forgetting to utilize. Gone are the days of stories disappearing after 24 hours, Instagram’s highlight stories tool allows your business to put your favorite stories from the past front and center on your profile. Organize your favorite stories into their own unique categories and allow followers old and new to see your stories past their 24 hour expiration date.

What are Instagram Story Highlights?

This Instagram feature allows users to put previous stories into organized bubbles just below their Instagram bio. Once you post a story, you can save it and display it in an Instagram story highlight of your choosing. You can name your highlight and choose the cover that appears below it.

How to add to your Story Highlights

Even after your story disappears, it is saved to your archive. To put these photos into a story highlight is quite easy.

To turn on your the Instagram Stories Archive feature:

    1. Go to settings.
    2. Go to Privacy.
    3. Click on Story.
    4. Swipe to turn on the “Save to Archive.”


After your stories are saved to your archive, you can begin to add them to your Story Highlights.

To add your Story Highlights:

  1. Go to your profile and tap story highlights, just below the “edit profile” button. When there tap the “+” sign.
  2. Tap the story you want to add to your highlight, and press “next.”
  3. Choose a cover photo and give your highlight a name. Press “add.”



Quick Tip!

Choose a theme for the cover photos of your highlight stories. This will give your Instagram profile a more cohesive look. There are many free websites with templates to give you the perfect on-brand icons for your Instagram feed. On the right, we have a great example from a client of ours, Creative MMS. They are using the same color blue themes for their Story Highlight Covers.  This was relatively easy for us to create and you can go with a similar style or anyway you like.

Ways to Use Instagram Highlight Stories

1. Repost Customer Reviews

84% of consumers trust online reviews as much as a personal recommendations. By highlighting positive reviews posted by your clients, people are more likely to trust your business. The company Summer Fridays does a great job highlighting customer reviews. Their company sells skin care, so their story highlight featuring results and reviews is a great way to show what their users are saying about their product.

When a customer tags you in a post or a story, you can repost that photo onto your own story. Including these photos in your story highlight are a great way to add content to your profile, without having to do any work of your own. User generated content is a great way to show how people are using your products. Instagram also allows you to add swipe up links that can link directly to your website to the product or service the picture is showing.




2. Highlight Special Events

If your business hosts an event, takes a trip, or has anything that makes your business special, showcase these things on your story highlights! Instagram’s story highlight feature is a great tool to showcase the fun your office has, and gives you the chance to show your followers a different side of your business. By filing these stories in one folder, you allow your followers to see a peak into life in your office. Just remember to snap photos and videos during these events, and you will be sure to have a great section to add to your story highlights. You could even keep this section as simple as Bad Rhino’s story highlight dedicated to Walter.



3. FAQ Section

Instagram’s questions sticker allows followers to submit a question for you to answer. Post a question sticker to your story and see all the questions your followers want to know the answers to! Post the question along with your answer to your story. After creating a collection of questions and answers, add these stories to their own highlight and label it FAQ. This way, if your followers have any questions, they will likely already be answered in an easy manner for them to find.Your followers will be able to see the questions, but the person who asked the question will stay anonymous. All you have to do is pick the picture you would like to be the background, tap the question sticker button, and add to your story! 



4. Showcase Your Products and Services

Your feed doesn’t have to be the only place your brand showcases your work, why not show off your services more in their own story highlight? A local West Chester business, Brows by Tara Giorgio, does a great job in doing this. A featured story on her Instagram showcases photos of the work she has done. Followers do not need to scroll through her Instagram to see her services, they are highlighted in their own section at the top of her profile. Instagram story highlights are the perfect way to showcase your best work in one organized place. Story highlights are located above your posts so take advantage of this prime location on your feed!
