Last week, Instagram started their test of hiding likes. This comes after the head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, announced last Friday that users may begin experiencing changes on the platform. Instagram has already been testing the private like feature in several other countries, but this is the first time users in the US will see the change. Don’t worry- if you have not already experienced the switch to private likes on your account, you are not a part of the preliminary test.

Users will still be able to like photos, but they will only be able to see the number of likes their posts receive. Instagram says “they want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your post get.”

Instagram tweeted today that they are expanding the private like test globally. They gave a peek into what the removal of the feature would make your feed look like.

The platform accknoweldges that like counts are important for many users and they are “actively thinking through ways for creators to communicate value to their partners.” Check out this video that explains the new changes in depth.
