Popular photo sharing app Instagram has now unveiled a new feature that allows for tagging users in photos.

Similar to a mobile upload on Facebook, users now have the ability to tag other users in what is known as Photos of You.

“Today, we’re excited to introduce Photos of You and bring you a new way to share and discover stories on Instagram,” a post on the site’s official blog said.  “When you upload a photo to Instagram, you’re now able to add people as easily as you add hashtags.”

Users have complete control of who gets tagged in their pictures – so nobody else can tag himself or herself. Users can tag accounts of friends, accounts of a company (if they’re using their products) or even an account made for a pet.

In addition, Photos of You will get a section on the user’s profile. When tagged in a picture, the user will get a notification with the picture making an appearance. Settings also can be adjusted so that photos won’t appear on a user’s profile if they don’t like them, or find them to be unflattering.

Photos of You is scheduled to be available to only the user until May 16; after that, tagged photos will become visible to other users. An update including this feature is already available on the App Store as well as Google Play.
