Driving Sales on Instagram Gets Easier with Shoppable Stories

The latest Instagram Stories feature is a win for anyone trying to push their products and make a buck.  That should be all of us, right?

Instagram’s shoppable stories stickers will allow brands to tag specific products in stories (similar to shopping in regular Instagram posts). Consumers will be able to click on products that have been tagged in a story and purchase the item after learning more about it.

When viewing stories, followers will notice the shopping bag icon, which points out that a specific product can be clicked on, viewed, and easily purchased.

Shoppers on Instagram are savvy. They visit Instagram looking for the latest trends and styles. With 300M using Instagram Stories everyday, people are increasingly finding new products from brands they love. In a recent survey, Instagrammers said they often watch stories to stay in the-know with brands they’re interested in, get an insider view of products they like, and find out about new products that are relevant to them.

Important Notes About Shoppable Stories:

  • Shoppable Stickers can be placed on both images and videos
  • There are 4 different types of stickers:  a shopping bag icon, a sticker with the product name in rainbow or grey, and translucent text
  • Not everyone has access to this feature, but all consumers can view shoppable stories. Some brands that have already started promoting products with Shoppable Stories includes  GAP, Adidas, Aritzia, The Kooples, and Louis Vuitton.
  • Currently, the only way to drive traffic from stories is with a verified Instagram business account that has 10,000+ followers. No word on if Shoppable Stories will come with a follower limit or not.
