In order to “reflect its focus on building the metaverse,” Facebook has change its name to Meta. The change was announced and explained at the Facebook annual Connect Conference on October 28th.

The rebranding and renaming of the platform could also signify the company’s shift in how it operates. Recently, its focus on the metaverse has meant the creation of 10,000 more jobs in Europe. The term metaverse is becoming more and more relevant, especially in the platform’s dialogue.  Facebook defined it as virtual spaces “where you can create and explore with other people who aren’t in the same physical space as you.” The metaverse is the next step following the mobile internet and connects virtual reality to augmented reality.
