Twitter is the “go-to” social media platform for customers looking to engage with your business. Not only are your customers looking to reach out directly to ask about products/services, they are also hoping to utilize Twitter for quick customer service.

Engaging with customers and building up your reputation is much easier when you have a following on Twitter. The beauty of Twitter is that you can quickly grow your followers, organically (although, paid advertising helps). These 5 steps will help you quickly gain Twitter followers, allowing you to reach more customers and build credibility in your industry.

Step 1: Bulk Tweet

Twitter makes it easy to post content in high volume. It’s not uncommon for some brands to tweet from anywhere between 15 to 20 times a day (or much more). There more you tweet, the better your chances of gaining more followers. The reason being, when you tweet with hashtags, your account appears in search streams making it easy for your audience to find you.

The best way to implement this strategy is to create tweets that contain evergreen content that can be scheduled ahead of time. You can schedule these evergreen tweets in bulk and place them strategically in your calendar.  These tweets usually aren’t time sensitive, and can be 3rd party articles, company information, open-ended questions, etc. Just make sure when you do schedule these tweets, they are spaced out as much as possible so your page does not look repetitive.

Step 2: Utilize Social Media Tools

If you find that you need to be more aggressive in gaining more followers, you may want to consider using social media following tools like Crowdfire. Crowdfire allows users to play the #FollowForFollow game, but with a more targeted audience. If you know that you are looking for a specific demographic or location, Crowdfire will pull those users and allow you to pick which ones you want to follow.

It’s up to you if you want to unfollow these accounts later. Some may argue against it, but if you find that an account is too offensive and not what you were looking for, it’s okay to hit the “unfollow” button.

Step 3: Visual Content

It’s a no-brainer that content that includes some type of visuals have a greater chance of receiving more engagement. Now that doesn’t mean every tweet needs an image. You still will see some engagement and be able to interact with you audience, but keep in mind that tweets that do have images tend to perform better and have a better chance or being reshared.

It’s also important to consider the type of visual to include in a tweet. Generally speaking, video content is 6 times more likely to be shared, while infographics are shared 3 times more often compared to other visuals.

Step 4: #Hashtags

Hashtags are a way your tweets can become more searchable, by almost 13%. By treating hashtags like keywords, your content has the potential to reach the specific target audience you are looking to attract.

If you are really looking to gain more followers in a specific industry, consider hashtags that are:

  • Branded
  • Trending
  • Relevant

Step 5: Optimization

Because Twitter users are skeptical about companies using bots to generate tweets, your profile needs to be optimized as much as possible in order to gain trust.

Follow these subtle steps to appeal more “human” and better your chances of gaining new Twitter followers:

  • Upload a hi-res profile and cover image
  • Include relevant links, information, and verbiage in your bio
  • Showcase your personality
