ffIn a well-received announcement, Facebook declared that animated GIFs will now be supported and should soon begin appearing in users’ News Feeds. The news comes roughly one year after Twitter added GIF support last summer.

Facebook had previously wanted to avoid cluttering News Feeds with memes and GIFs, but as TechCrunch notes, the company has decided to go in a different direction with animated GIF support.

So far, Facebook has only rolled out this feature to personal pages so far, but business pages should soon expect to see this feature as well. In time, Pages support and full mobile support should be introduced as well.
