With the debut of Instant Articles, Facebook has found a way for users to read stories and watch videos from their favorite publishers within the friendly confines of Facebook. Yes, it’s true – users no longer have to leave the network to read articles from publishers such as National Geographic and The New York Times.

Since the articles load almost immediately via Facebook, as opposed to 5-10 seconds when clicking on an external link, publishers will be able to capture their audience’s attention and tell their story right from Facebook. The articles are not only fast to load, but also are interactive and can include auto-play videos and maps for readers to look at.

With mobile being such a large part of the user experience, there is no doubt that speed makes this Facebook announcement all the more important. From the release: “Leveraging the same technology used to display photos and videos quickly in the Facebook app, articles load instantly, as much as 10 times faster than the standard mobile web.”
