Facebook Live

With so much attention on video streaming apps Meerkat and Periscope, it was only a matter of time before Facebook jumped on board. This week, the company announced Facebook Live, a feature in its Mentions app that allows celebrities to broadcast live videos to their followers.

Of course, the drawback here is that only celebrities and verified accounts with access to the Mentions app are able to produce these live video broadcasts. Meerkat and Periscope allow anyone, no matter their status or prestige, to go live.

According to TechCrunch, Facebook will send push alerts to users when someone they are subscribed to and frequently interact with go live, making it more likely that their broadcast won’t fall on deaf ears.

What are your thoughts on Facebook Live? Is it fair that only celebrities have live streaming capabilities? Let us know in the comments.
