Gift cards are impersonal and buying the wrong gift leads to annoying returns. With Snappy Gifts, the receiver gets to choose exactly what they want, reports TechCrunch. Snappy Gifts is a new startup offering a fresh new approach that takes the guess-work out of gift giving.

You go to Snappy Gift’s app, choose a price range and then select from a collection of gifts that you want your recipient to choose from, like ‘gadgets’, ‘cooking’, ‘teens’ or ‘sports’.  You can then designate a suggested gift from legit brands like Amazon mobile devices, GoPros, Prada Clothing and Kate Spade purses. Without having to pay up front, you send the digital present.

The recipient gets to virtually scratch to reveal the suggested gift that you chose for them. They can then accept it, or pre-swap it for anything else in the collection within your selected price range. You’ll receive an email asking you to pay the standard retailer price of the present and then Snappy Gifts ships it off. This app cuts deals for discounts from the manufacturers, and keeps the average ten percent margin between the wholesale price and what it charges you.

There are many advantages that come from Snappy Gifts, especially if you can’t deliver a gift in person. Some of the advantages are that no time is wasted shopping in brick-and-mortar stores, no impersonal gift cards that don’t show you what they could get, no overpaying for gift cards they will forget to use, and no worries that you’re buying them the wrong gift because they pick it out themselves. It’s easy to send something awesome even if you can’t imagine what to send, through the selection of Snappy Gifts.

The app itself is still a little rough around the edges. The design needs a polish and you can only send a gift from an iOS app, not the web or android. There is also the risk that the recipient might pick a gift that never ends up getting paid for and sent. The traditional gift giving for this upcoming Holiday season will always be an option, but it is not as easy for people to pick out what they want and get it so quickly, as Snappy Gifts.
