Tumblr

Tumblr recently hit a significant social media milestone on Tuesday, surpassing the 100 million blog mark, as reported by TheNextWeb.

Launched in 2007, the microblogging site reached the plateau with over 44.6 billion posts by users. To put it in perspective, it is enough for every human on Earth to have contributed approximately six posts on a site that is one-third the population of the United States.

The site has been growing at a rapid pace over the past several years, as it reached the 50 million blog mark in April of last year. At the beginning of this month, the site reported 93 million blogs.

The site generates approximately 80.2 million posts per day, with 45% coming from American users. Brazil and the United Kingdom also comprise a large amount of its user base, with 49 million and 34 million visitors respectively.

Tumblr is still behind Facebook (over a billion), Twitter (approximately 200 million) and Google+ (135 billion), but its rapid growth of users should not keep it behind for too much longer.
