When we see a little bird on a blue background, most of us automatically think of Twitter. Now, we are going to have to retrain our brains. Twitter has officially changed its name to “X.” The little bird is gone and in its place is a white X on black background. So, what does this mean?

The functions of the app are remaining the same, but the appearance of the app is changing drastically. Elon Musk is gradually  getting rid of all things little blue bird and replacing it with the black and white bold X. The menu bar now features the new logo at the top and just about all Twitter profiles feature the black and white X as their profile image. Musk has been tweeting about it pretty consistently, bidding adieu to the birds and welcoming X with open arms.

But why? Why did Musk decide to abruptly transition Twitter to X? Musk has been using the letter X in various products and companies for decades. Even PayPal was formerly known as X.com before it was part of a merger and rebranded. Musk believes that Twitter is an “everything app”, and rebranding the app to X represents that. The grand plan is to eventually turn X into a platform that offers online banking, video messaging, and more. The logo will most likely undergo subtle revisions over time, as Musk has already stated he doesn’t enjoy how thick the lines are. However, the overall brand of X may be here to stay.
