Tumblr has become the latest social site to hop on the user-mentioning bandwagon, popularized by Twitter and embraced throughout the social media scene.
User mentions work on Tumblr just as they work anywhere else – the utilization of the “@” symbol. Users are also notified in their dashboard when another user mentions them.
“Just type @ and a username when you’re writing a post and we’ll let that person know that you mentioned them,” Tumblr staffer Chris M. Johnson said in a post on the staff’s feed. “They will be thrilled by this.”
The addition of user mentions comes on the heels of a three-hour outage Monday afternoon, during which various errors affected the entire network of 166 million and more blogs. But now, that network has a chance to expand and connect even closer to one another.
“Stop mentioning things and start mentioning blogs,” Johnson’s post said.
